About Liz
Liz Teel grew up in the small town of Burke, SD. Both of her parents, Clyde and Becky Teel, came from musical families themselves, so music has always been a huge part of her life. In the 80s and 90s, the Teel family played many concerts in churches throughout the upper great plains region of SD, IA, NE, and MN. They recorded more than a dozen albums during this time, which played a significant role in Liz's development in songwriting and recording. Liz's father, Clyde, is a prolific songwriter himself, and that father/daughter bond has very much influenced Liz's writing.
In 2002, after completing an MA in Worship Leadership from North American Baptist Seminary, Liz found herself called to youth ministry at Community Reformed Church in Sioux Falls, SD. Although this was not her initial plan, Liz was able to see how God was using this time in her life to grow and transform her knowledge, experiences, musical skills, and writing. During this time, she began to write songs specifically for worship, and the people of Community graciously received these new songs with open arms. They were exceptionally encouraging and willing to learn her songs, and they continue to be so. Liz has often expressed her deep thanks for the people of Community and the way they encouraged her in her music. Without them, these worship songs would probably not exist.
After 16 years as a Youth Pastor, Liz transitioned to the pastoral role of Adult Discipleship and Worship Leadership Community. At this time, she was able to give her music more attention due to her new role, and her debut worship album, No More Shadows, was released in 2018. This album chronicled several songs Liz wrote during her mother's battle with and subsequent death from pancreatic cancer. Her newest worship album, The Kingdom is Now, is set to be released in the spring of 2026. Liz sees writing worship music as a tremendous responsibility. She works especially hard to ensure that her songs contain solid theology as well as lyrics that relate to honest human experiences. She believes God uses music in profound, holy ways, and she is intentional about writing songs that, she hopes, participate in that life-changing work of the Holy Spirit.
Currently, Liz lives and works in Sioux Falls, SD. Her father Clyde, sister Abbie, and brother-in-law Dalton continue to play bluegrass music in the region as The Teels. She is deeply thankful for her family and this gift of a musical life.

As a substitute for Mid-Week at Community Church in the fall of 2020, Liz put together a series of videos in which she shares the history behind some of the worship songs she's written, a short devotional thought, and the song itself. This is the seventh video in the series, which features "Don't Be Afraid."
